Welcome to the Green Park Triathlon 2014 and welcome to our new Green Park Triathlon website!!
This is the fourth year of this fantastic race, through which competitors have raised over £100,000 for Comic Relief/Sport Relief. In 2013, 350 competitors raised a magnificent £45,000, and we’re hoping to beat our personal best again in 2014. The 2014 event will take place on Wednesday 19th March.
Changes for 2014
There will be some changes and additions to the Green Park Triathlon this year.
We’re delighted to welcome Andy Whitwell who has become our new Event Director. He succeeds founder of the Green Park Triathlon Nigel Townley in 2014. We shall be talking more about Nigel’s brilliant work in developing the race and Andy’s plans for the future in later blogs. It must be said, though, the Green Park Triathlon would not exist without Nigel’s brilliant and dedicated work and we are extremely grateful for everything Nigel has done for the Event and for Comic/Sport Relief over the last four years.
Other changes to the triathlon include an Elite Exhibition Race to give you the chance to watch some of the best local athletes facing off for the honour of becoming the male and female Green Park Triathlon Champions, and also prizes for fast finishers in the Over-40 and Over-50 age-groups (male and female). We’ll be releasing more details about these changes, and others, via the website and the blog very soon.
Open For Entries
The good news is – the Green Park Triathlon is open for entries right now!
On entering the event, you will be asked to choose from two triathlon distances. The ‘Funathon’ comprises a 200m Pool Swim, 9km Cycle and a 3.5km Run and the ‘Sprint’ comprises a challenging 400m Pool Swim, 17km Cycle and 6.5km Run.
There is also an Inter-Company Team Relay where teams of two or three colleagues each do a single part of the triathlon, relay style, the winning Company taking away the coveted Green Park Challenge Trophy.
All competitors are asked to try to raise at least £100 for Sport Relief this year, with a number of prizes (including an Apple I-Pad) for the competitors raising the most. On entering the event, you will be sent an email with details of your unique Sport Relief Giving Page, through which we would ask that you accumulate your sponsorship money.
Please pass details of your page to your friends and colleagues and let them know about your big challenge, whether your goal might be to get fit in 2014, to beat your friends and colleagues, or to compete for a place at the top of the race leader-board.
So, commit to get fit and kick-start your fundraising for Sport Relief today. We can’t wait to see you on the start line next March!
